Food and drinks in The Smiddy Haugh

We stayed here Tuesday 24/06/25 with my friend's doggy, Dexter, and cannot high star this fabulous hotel up enough. Gorgeous place, fabulous food, great ale. Nicky and Mr. Nicky (I'm afraid I didn't catch Nicky's partner's name) are amazing hosts; super friendly, happy to help, and just lovely, lovely people in general. So welcoming to dogs, (our guest name and room was charged to Dexter 😁😁❤️, sadly, he didn't pay, though. We did 😁) and keep those peepers peeled for the photos of puppers past and present all around the bar. If you're really lucky you'll meet gentleman Jasper, the doggy landlord and beer thief extraordinaire, and the gorgeous Suicide Sophie ❤️ Lovely beer garden, fabulous food, welcoming, friendly staff, and a possible haunted bar. What more does anyone need? 11/10 ❤️

Rich & Niki are lovely hosts .. couldn’t do enough for us. Have to give Jasper their Labrador a mention too … friendly boy. It’s a fantastic dog friendly hotel & pub and gave such a fabulous village feel. The room was fantastic, and the bed so comfortable. Everything that you require was available in the room. Food was delicious and a great menu catering to vegetarian/vegans too. Breakfast was included and we went for the full Scottish breakfast which set us up for the day. I can’t recommend The Smiddy Haugh enough and safe to say we will be returning. Of note there is such beautiful countryside to explore and lots of lovely villages and towns nearby to visit including Gleneagles, with Perth & Stirling in easy reach if you prefer larger towns/ cities to explore.

Exceedingly warm welcome to an Inn with plenty of kerb appeal and character. Staff were very friendly, room was lovely, warm, clean and with plenty of tea/coffee etc. Very comfortable bed. Spotless en suite shower room with high quality toiletries. We both had two evening meals and two breakfasts during our stay and the food was excellent. Soups were delicious as were the mains. Scrambled eggs in the morning were top notch. Very accommodating about portion size for loss of appetite but beautifully presented which encouraged eating. Very dog friendly and all the dogs in and out of the busy bar area were incredibly well behaved. Locals were nice and chatty which makes a big difference to guests. Ideally situated for our trip. Free parking. Wonderful building which has been very sympathetically restored keeping the character. Definitely recommend a stay at Smiddy Haugh and we are hoping to be back.

A very warm welcome from the owners, Nikky and Richard. Our room was comfortable and spacious with a private bathroom, plus great facilities such as free wifi and Sky, (and free Sky movies). A spacious, beer garden to the rear with secure off street parking. Great choice of locally produced beers and spirits available and exceptional food on offer. Both the meals we had in the bar and our breakfasts were very high quality, again using locally produced ingredients. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners during our stay and we have enjoyed a very relaxed and comfortable couple of nights here. This is a dog friendly hotel which is spotlessly clean. We will definitely be visiting again. We cannot recommend The Smiddy Haugh enough!

We parked up and arrived through the back entrance of the guest house. Really warm welcome, (lovely pub garden area) so helpful, just felt comfortable. Up to our room, lovely lay out. Enough space and everything you would need for your stay. Hair dryer, tea & coffee facilities, and loads!! of places to plug in, yay!! The dining room looked lovely but we did not use it.

The Smiddy Haugh is in an excellent location for traveling up to, or home from, the top of Scotland. We had a long drive home south, and this was perfectly placed to stop for the night, traveling home after driving from the Stromness/Scrabster ferry after visiting Orkney. The rooms were very traditional, spotlessly clean & comfortable. The staff were lovely and the food was excellent, including the breakfast. We would definitely stay there again.

Perfect stay with wonderful staff and delicious food. This wee hidden gem far exceeded our expectations. A fabulous bar, and cosy dining area, along with a great beer garden. We ordered some food which was delicious, along with two lovingly made cocktails. A very comfy nights sleep, and a delicious breakfast to follow! The service was perfect, staff all so friendly and efficient, they never stopped. We will be back.

We loved the warm welcome when we arrived and really appreciated the help with our heavy bags. We loved the old building. Our room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The staff were very helpful and very friendly. We enjoyed our meal in the evening - tasty and a good-sized portion. We would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

Very comfortable, large family room. Stayed with our toddler and dog. Outside area perfect for taking the dog out. Sky TV for emergency toddler entertainment. Breakfast was exceptional. We had dinner in the pub too which was great.
